Post New York

Reflecting on the show at Rockwood in NYC last week has been fun. Thanks so much to everyone who came out to make it a great night. Getting the chance to integrate some new accompaniment was awesome... Eric Shimelonis (piano, bass) and I have been playing a bit together here in DC, and Paddy Boom (formerly of Scissor Sisters) is a new addition on the percussion front. And I think people really enjoyed the different flavors they brought to each song. I'm excited to be back up there with them September 16th.

This event tonight at Homebody (outfitters for contemporary living at 715 8th Street SE) will be fun. A good opportunity to connect with a lot of folks from the LGBT community here in DC by supporting one of my favorite local businesses in Homebody and a stalwart of the community in Reel Affirmations.

Watching Wimbledon right now. Dying to get there in person one of these days. Hopefully before Federer retires.

Things are getting hot here in DC. I've resisted turning the AC on, but it may be time to succumb. When I first moved here, I went without it for 4 years... can't believe that. It's getting pretty unbearable - you just feel so sluggish and you don't realize why... I think I'm talking myself into it right now. ha.

Time to get a little exercise. Got some great shows coming up here in DC this summer... new players and arrangements are sure to be involved. Mark your calendars - Saturday, July 18th at IOTA Club & Cafe and Sunday, August 16th at Rock & Roll Hotel.

Lots of rain

We had some crazy rain here in DC last night. Flash floods everywhere. It's crazy how scary and destructive water can be.

So, I've been practicing with some new arrangements to try out in a live setting. Will be fun to be able to present something different every once in a while. Tonight at this private event, my talented friend Eric Shimelonis will play bass and drums at the same time. It's pretty crazy. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all works together. Anyway, t's just fun to be playing music with people. It can get a bit lonely, playing by yourself all the time. So, excited to mix things up.

On a totally unrelated note, I forget that this time of year is so great for sports watching.... I guess it depends on your team, but, with the Penguins in the Stanley Cup and Roger Federer competing in the last rounds of the French, it is a hard time to beat for me. Football Sundays are always the best, but, I'm enjoying these matchups right now.

Lots to do before this performance tonight. Better get to it.

Spring sprang

I stopped by HB Woodlawn in Arlington today to check in on the kids I taught last quarter. We'd done a series of classes on songwriting under the umbrella of creative writing, and I really had a ton of fun with it / them. Learned a lot myself, and I think / hope they did, too. Anyway, they are awesome and didn't seem to mind me popping my head in today...

I'm looking forward to the show in NYC on Thursday. The Rockwood is a cool little place that has a great vibe - I'm excited to be part of it and to have met some of the community there. Will be good to mix things up with some piano playing - some of the songs just seem to work to better that way.

I'm not into this hot weather already. My favorite time in DC is Spring and it seems we're getting cheated out of it right now. I know I shouldn't complain about 85 degree weather, but I'm going to. ha. It's okay... we like what we like, right? I wonder if I'd really like San Francisco weather - I'm thinking I would... Or maybe it can be hot, but it has to be dry. Tucson here I come. Anyway, I hate talking about weather. Let alone the weather channel.

Been feeling some songs brewing lately but with all the other work to do they've been patiently waiting for the time to come out. Excited to see what'll be next. I'm still really into these songs that are on "Keep Talking" (it's crazy sometimes how the press cycle can dictate new songs not being new for me anymore, but, I guess so goes promotion) - I think once more people start to know them they'll become even more fun to play - so, hopefully they can keep growing in a way. I love when songs do that.

My coffee cup is empty and my computer battery low. I must sign off. 'Til next time.

Inaugural post!

Had a great show last night at Busboys and Poets in Washington, DC. I'm really looking forward to playing there regularly. It's really comfortable for folks there to listen, and the piano adds a certain element... just really nice.

It's into full-on promo mode for the release of the new album, "Keep Talking." I'm just excited for the songs to get out there and be consumed... the response from pre-orderers has been fantastic, so, I'm just really glad that people are connecting with the songs.

I guess I'm fully getting into the online community... just interested in connecting wherever possible. The new youtube channel -- www.youtube.com/user/lauratsaggaris -- should be pretty cool. Will be fun to do some recordings and post them to keep in touch.

I hope to open up a bit about stuff outside of music here as well, but, that'll have to wait 'til a future post. If you have a question you'd like me to answer here, feel free to send it along to laura@lauratsaggaris.com and I'll try to get to it when I can and post the answer here.
